Amy Hickman is a site coordinator for Tech Teach at Texas Tech University, supporting teacher candidates through the teacher preparation program. Along with being a Site Coordinator, Amy has also been an instructor for Tech Teach in the areas of special education and science methods courses. Amy also serves as the advisor for TSTA-SP.

 

Prior to beginning her work with Tech Teach at Texas Tech University, Amy served as a teacher at Lubbock-Cooper Independent School District. Her experiences were teaching special education at both elementary and middle level along with teaching 2nd grade as a general education teacher. While at the middle level, she primarily worked with 6th -8th grade English Language Arts and Reading. At the elementary level, Amy worked with all grade levels while focusing mainly on 2nd -5 th grade. During her time as a teacher, she was also part of several initiatives and committees such as: Read180, writer’s workshop, campus improvement advisory and served as a mentor teacher both to first year teachers and to teacher candidates. 

 

Amy received her Master’s degree at Texas Tech University in 2013 in Special Education. Amy is currently a doctoral candidate in Curriculum and Instruction, with a specialization in Teacher Education Preparation, at Texas Tech University.
