Dr. Amy L. Weems is a team reviewer with TPI-US and an Associate Professor in the School of Education at the University of Louisiana Monroe. Her professional roles include supporting teacher candidates in preparation for admission to the Teacher Education Program, instructor and field experience coordinator throughout junior and senior field experiences and methods coursework, and graduate faculty member for advanced programs. Amy teaches courses in pre-educator dual enrollment, pre-admission, professional, alternative certification, masters-level, and doctoral programs. Her areas of expertise are in methods and content pedagogy, assessment, classroom management, program evaluation, and curriculum design.
Amy serves on numerous committees to bridge partnerships between local school districts and the university, and she has helped to develop a state-wide pathway for high school students interested in pursuing careers in the field of education.
Amy was formerly Assistant Principal at Sterlington Middle School. In this role, Amy was the lead school administrator in the implementation of a three-year literacy initiative and helped to facilitate professional learning communities at school and district levels with an emphasis on foundational and disciplinary literacy skills for
secondary classroom settings. Prior to her work at ULM and SMS, Amy was a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher, school technologist, and curriculum coordinator at Ouachita Junior High School. During her time at OJHS, Amy was named the 2013 Louisiana Teacher of the Year.
Amy earned her B.S. in Family and Consumer Sciences Education and Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She also holds an M.S. from Louisiana Tech University in Family and Consumer Sciences Education. Amy has been an educator in secondary K-12 and higher education for over 25 years.
