Dr. Amy Weems is an Assistant Professor in the School of Education at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. In this role, Amy coordinates the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program for elementary, secondary, and inclusive education certification programs. Amy teaches courses in undergraduate, MAT, MEd, and doctoral programs related to methods and pedagogy, assessment, classroom management, program evaluation, and curriculum design. 


Amy was formerly Assistant Principal at Sterlington Middle School in Sterlington, LA. In this role, Amy supported and evaluated teachers in core subject areas of English language arts, science, and social studies; career and technical education; physical education; and instructional technology. She was the lead school administrator in the implementation of a three-year literacy initiative in partnership with the Ouachita Parish School System, the Southern Regional Education Board, and the Literacy Design Collaborative. Prior to her work at ULM and SMS, Amy was a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher, school technologist, and curriculum coordinator at Ouachita Junior High School in Monroe, LA. During her time at OJHS, Amy was named the 2013 Louisiana Teacher of the Year. 


Amy earned her B.S. in Family and Consumer Sciences Education and Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She also holds an M.S. from Louisiana Tech University in Family and Consumer Sciences Education. Amy has been an educator in secondary K-12 and higher education for over 20 years.
