Charles R. Coble

Charles R. Coble, a native North Carolinian, earned a two-year degree in Science from Mars Hill College and a B.A. in Botany, a Master of Arts in Teaching, and his Ed.D. in Science Education from UNC-Chapel Hill. He taught science in Wilmington and Charlotte before becoming a professor of science education at East Carolina University. He later served as the dean of the ECU school of education for 13 years, and later served as a Vice-President for the UNC system for six years. After retiring from the state, he led Teaching Quality and later served

as V.P. for Policy Studies and Programs at the Education Commission of the States in Denver, CO. Coble was co-founder of two consulting firms, The Third Mile Group and Teacher Preparation. He is the author or co-author of 10 books or chapters in books and over 80 published articles. He has led research and development grants and contracts in England, Egypt, Germany, Italy, Japan and in states across the United States.
