Dr. Inger McGee is a TPI-US reviewer who brings vast experience in program performance management and use of data for continuous improvement to educator preparation program reviews. She also has a strong background in teaching early literacy and the components of the science of reading. She has a Ph.D. in Education with emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction.
Dr. McGee has 29 years of experience as an educator-11 years teaching first and second grades and 18 years in college and university teacher education preparation programs. Having spent most of her 11 years teaching multiage and looping classes, she specialized in early reading and writing, with focus on teaching for impact and strategies for supporting students at all learning levels. She led school-wide professional development in reading comprehension and school-wide professional development goals that included using protocols to look at student work. She also provided professional development in reading and writing for multiple school districts.
In higher education, Dr. McGee taught reading, language arts, and social studies instruction and assessment courses to teacher candidates as well as observed and evaluated candidates’ teaching. Additionally, she has served as the director of teacher education programs and developed alignment training on observation evaluation tools for supervisors of teacher candidates. She also implemented a co-teaching for student teaching model for teacher candidates and their classroom mentor teachers. Dr. McGee currently serves as the director of assessment and accreditation where she assists teacher preparation program leaders and faculty in developing strong assessment practices and program performance management, data analysis and interpretation, and use of results for continuous improvement. She has led successful state approval and professional accreditation reviews.
Dr. McGee’s areas of expertise include early literacy and the science of reading, identifying high-quality instructional materials, collecting quality data, program evaluation, and developing evidence-based continuous improvements.
