Dr. Jenny Louden

Jenny Louden serves as a reviewer with TPI-US and supports the delivery of technical assistance to educator preparation programs across the country. She brings deep expertise in literacy instruction, curriculum design, and educator preparation with a strong commitment to aligning teacher training with the Science of Reading.


Jenny is an Associate Professor and Director of Elementary Education at Southern Arkansas University, where she prepares teacher candidates through structured literacy coursework and authentic classroom experiences. Her role includes teaching undergraduate and graduate-level literacy courses, supervising field placements, and leading initiatives focused on high-quality instructional materials and practice-based experiences. She has designed and implemented observation and feedback systems, literacy-aligned rubrics, and coursework that emphasizes explicit, systematic instruction.


With a passion for ensuring teacher candidates are well-prepared to meet the needs of PK–12 students, Jenny has led efforts to redesign reading coursework, implement diagnostic assessment tools, and incorporate strategies grounded in the Science of Reading. She regularly provides training and coaching on the use of structured literacy practices across a range of literacy strands.


Jenny’s areas of expertise include phonological and phonemic awareness, decoding and encoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Education, a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Doctorate in Curriculum Instruction and Assessment.


Outside of her professional work, Jenny enjoys traveling, exploring national parks, and spending time with her husband and four children.
