Martin Newell

Martin has helped develop and devise the TPI-US evaluation model, trained all the inspectors involved in the TPI-US project, and has worked alongside and quality assured all lead inspectors in many of the inspections carried out. Martin has extensive knowledge of the US education system having been instrumental in a project to inspect all public schools in New York City. He has managed, led, and participated in school inspection and school improvement and turnaround work in many cities including NYC, Newark, Benton Harbor, Oakland and Washington D.C. and has worked as calibration director for a project inspecting the lowest performing schools in the state of New York. Over the last 15 years Martin has led a high number of school inspections in the UK and has written and delivered training to enable school leaders to become inspectors of schools, and teacher preparation programs. Martin’s classroom and leadership experience is extensive. After working as an elementary and middle school teacher, he moved on to be leader of a school for students 3-16 with behavioral difficulties and then was a principal of a further two elementary schools before he was recruited by the UK government to be a lead inspector of schools across England.
